TRIGGER POINT INJECTION (TPI)
Trigger points form when the
muscle is in constant spasm and fails to relax. This may also irritate
the surrounding nerves and cause referred pain to other body parts. This
condition is caused Myofascial Pain Syndrome. It is often caused by
trauma such as whiplash type injury. TPI is a procedure used to treat
painful areas of the muscle caused by trigger points. The purpose of a
trigger point injection is to relax the muscle opening up the blood
vessels and increasing blood flow. Trigger point injections work well
alone ore when combined with massage and chiropractic treatments.
Injections are performed in the office. No driver is needed. Very small
needles are used. Local anesthetic is injected. Sometimes a small amount
of steroid is added.
